The City Spies series is my favorite tween/teen reads in a long time。 Perfection! Book two is BETTER than book one which is an uncommon feat for most authors, but not a pro like Ponti。 He pulls out all the stops: a young team of teens brought together by an agent they call Mother train in a castle in Scotland。 They learn all kinds of great things and use competition to hone their skills in cryptology, bomb building, lock picking, escaping a dangerous spot, hand to hand combat--you know, the normal things kids learn at boarding school。 Aboard the Sylvia Earle, two of the City Spies are undercover posing as "normal" school kids on a trip to inspire girls to pursue the sciences。 MI6 places Brooklyn and Sydney on board to insure the safety of two girls--one a daughter of a member of Parliament and the other a daughter of a Duke, #32 in line for the crown。 When hijackers board their vessel, Sydney isn't where she should be--fast asleep on board。 She's in the water on a solo scuba dive。 Brooklyn wakes the two girls she's supposed to protect and hides them。 Worried about Sydney, Brooklyn has her hands full。When she's not fighting huge men, she's outsmarting the hijackers。 She is able to send a message to the Coast Guard who are on their way。 The girls save the day! Brooklyn argues with Sydney and is jealous of her。 She regards Sydney as the "ultimate spy," and feels like a failure next to her。 The two girls will have to quell their differences。 Back at the castle, Mother divulges his secret: his own two children are in danger and someone inside MI6 is a double agent。 Using the embedded metadata from a photograph, the team discovers Mother's children are in San Francisco。 It's time to head there, locate and save the kids, and stop the rogue agent wherever they are。 Full of twists and turns, crosses and double crosses, plus teen drama and tough friendships, City Spies: Golden Gate delivers! Readers will love, love, love this book! Waiting for book 3 will be a Herculean effort。 Highly, highly recommended。 This one will be in the running for many best lists and awards! 。。。more

I have just finished reading this brilliant masterpiece and am now trying to put my feelings into words。This book was just amazing, I absolutely loved it。 I adored City Spies and had very high expectations for the sequel。 And can I just say that I was not disappointed。 I love everything about this book。 The characters - all of them are just gems - and the plot and the pacing and ugh! This book mangaes to capture the readers' interest and educate them at the same time。 By this I mean that it also contains interesting information。 Thanks to this book, I now know that a group of ravens is called a conspiracy。 I love Ponti's writing style。 All of his books that I've read so far have been amazing。 The plot was so good and well paced。 I loved all the clues and how they all solved it and everything。 It was so smart and definitely left you in awe, and how they managed to figure it out was told in detail, which I really loved。 The last few chapters was action followed immediately by action and even more action。 I just loved it。I really hope there's another sequel! I would definitely recommend this book!!! 。。。more

I was really excited to receive the ARC of this after including the first one in my library lessons for 6th graders! It was a fine book, but it’s long and could easily have been 100 pages shorter and reached more kids at the age range it’s targeted for。

This second book in the series was just as good as the first one! Kudos to Ponti for making this a mystery that kids can solve if they follow the clues。 Great adventure, loved the spy aspect of the book。 The only drawback for me adding it to the library collection is the length, over 400 pages。 Most kids won’t read a book that long these days, sadly。 As for me, I can’t wait to read book 3!

This was lots of fun! Full of action, heart, humour, and adventure, this second instalment in the City Spies series delivered。 I loved the mystery and learning even more about this group of spies。 Definitely a book (and series!) I will be recommending to young readers。ARC Provided by Edelweiss

Suffice it to say, within hours of finishing James Ponti’s City Spies #1 I downloaded and began reading Golden Gate City Spies #2。 It’s even BETTER than #1! That doesn’t usually happen, but the combination of characters I now know and love all wrapped up in a double (possibly triple?) mystery kept me riveted。 If you know either a reluctant reader or a voracious reader and you are looking for fabulously fun books that are highly entertaining look no further。

Ponti delivered other addictive and non-stop adventure。 It was so addictive that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough。 It was such a non-stop story that I read it in one sitting。 When I read book 1 last year, it was in my top 10 favourite reads of 2020。 So I went into this with my expectations pretty high。 Somehow Ponti made an even more exciting and unforgettable read。 I didn’t expect to love it even more than City Spies, but I did。 The mystery was great, the characters are still outstanding, Ponti delivered other addictive and non-stop adventure。 It was so addictive that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough。 It was such a non-stop story that I read it in one sitting。 When I read book 1 last year, it was in my top 10 favourite reads of 2020。 So I went into this with my expectations pretty high。 Somehow Ponti made an even more exciting and unforgettable read。 I didn’t expect to love it even more than City Spies, but I did。 The mystery was great, the characters are still outstanding, and the continuing story arc pulls at the heartstrings。I can’t wait for the next book! 。。。more

I give the second book the edge and not just because it's San Francisco on the cover。 The team is already established and while there's immaturity between its members, it's handled very well。 I also enjoyed learning a bit more about Kat, as she's their more enigmatic member。 I liked her connection to Monty as well。 Yes, I'm an older reader, and sometimes it seems like the kids are a lot more capable than their mentors, who actually taught them all of this, but then I also know that it's all in g I give the second book the edge and not just because it's San Francisco on the cover。 The team is already established and while there's immaturity between its members, it's handled very well。 I also enjoyed learning a bit more about Kat, as she's their more enigmatic member。 I liked her connection to Monty as well。 Yes, I'm an older reader, and sometimes it seems like the kids are a lot more capable than their mentors, who actually taught them all of this, but then I also know that it's all in good fun and I would love to give it to two precocious young readers I know。 I will start reading the first one with my son since this seems like the kind of fiction he might actually enjoy instead of just endure。 。。。more

A beautiful sequel to City Spies! I loved this book and it is one I will reread in the future。 The audiobook reader is amazingly talented and gives voice to these loveable characters。 Absolutely genius! You can read the books out of order (they are incredibly well written that way) but it is more enjoyable to read Book 1 firstHighly recommend

Oh man, Ponti does it again! Both my 13yo and myself really enjoyed the first book, and this second book just ratcheted up the thrills even more。 I know a third is in the works and we'll pre-order that one just like we did this one。 Fun, funny, cinematic, and a real page-turner。What I appreciate about Ponti's mysteries is that they are just as subtle and layered as all the greats。 It had me guessing until the end and I love that。 This is an easy series to recommend。 Oh man, Ponti does it again! 4。5 stars Loved this sequel to City Spies。 Lots of planning, set up, and foreshadowing of events。 Too much time taken for something that was left open, in my opinion Hoping to see it solved in the next installment! Readers who enjoyed City Spies will like this one, too! On order for my MS library。

This book is amazing。 After I read the first one I thought the second could never be better but it was! James Ponti is such an amazing author and I love all of his books。 I love the way all of the characters interact。 This is a must read。

I love it when the next book in a series is not only as good as the first book, but even better! As I read the book, I cheered on the team as they discovered the identity of the Magpie and saved the day。 The author included so many facets in this book: the locations, the food, ornithology, relationships, sub- plots, and the characterization。 All of which is combined for a winning combination! This book calls for Book 3: Annie & Robert need their father! Two thumbs up for this book!

I absolutely loved City Spies when I read it last year, which you can see from my review on last year’s blog tour。 As I noted then, my son and I had read his Dead City series together and loved it, so I was excited to check out this new series, and was not disappointed。 My son then devoured it and loved it, and then we passed it on to a friend of his who loved it (as did his mom!), then he passed it on to another classmate of theirs, and I don’t even know how many times it’s been further passed I absolutely loved City Spies when I read it last year, which you can see from my review on last year’s blog tour。 As I noted then, my son and I had read his Dead City series together and loved it, so I was excited to check out this new series, and was not disappointed。 My son then devoured it and loved it, and then we passed it on to a friend of his who loved it (as did his mom!), then he passed it on to another classmate of theirs, and I don’t even know how many times it’s been further passed on at this point。 Book 2, Golden Gate, takes our young spies to San Francisco in pursuit of a mole that has plagued MI6 for years but hasn’t been uncovered。 The mystery that must be solved in this second book is just as tangled and smart as in the first, and we learn even more about the characters。 I raced through Golden Gate and, despite the fact that it’s middle grade and I’m a *little* older than the target audience, I had to force myself to stop reading one night at 1:00 a。m。 and go to bed!
